Unit 6 Impersonal 'it'

                                         IMPERSONAL  ‘it’


Impersonal 'it'  = kata ganti 'it' tanpa makna
'it'  is used as an opening of a sentence.

I. 'it' as a preparatory subject [sebagai subyek kalimat]
     -It is dangerous to swim across deep rivers. [=To swim across deep rivers is dangerous]
     -It is not easy for me to understand what she is saying
     -It is very good that you often help him on finance
     -It seems that they are disappointed
     -It appears that pak Ade Sutisna will change his plan

II. 'it' as a preparatory object [sebagai obyek kalimat]
     -I think it wise helping her
     -I find it difficult to understand what she stated

Assignment 1
Rewrite the following using impersonal 'it' as a subject appropriately

Eg.:  That our team lost the game is a shame.
                à It is ashamed that our team lost the game.

  1. To have a lot of knowledge is very important
  2. To come late to school is bad
  3. That you always come to school early is very good
  4. That our teacher was absent today is disappointing
  5. That our government will modify the curriculum is very necessary.

Assignment 2
Rewrite the following using impersonal 'it' as an object appropriately 

Eg. :  It is right to report the robbery to the police
à  We find it right to report the robbery to the police

  1. It was hard for him to control his temper
  2. It is difficult for him to believe Anna
  3. It must be easy for Hasan to do that
  4. It is unnecessary for me to bring an umbrella
  5. It is dangerous for the women to trust that men
